About Acupuncture

Whether you want to conceive naturally, or if IVF is necessary, Acupuncture can significantly increase your fertility.

Acupuncture works by stimulating your body's natural ability to heal itself. This means that hormone levels are balanced, blood circulation is improved and healthy maturation of sperm and eggs is stimulated.

We are so used to being told to make sure everything is in order before we have children; by the time we are finally ready to start a family, we find that actually falling pregnant is a lot harder than we originally thought. Getting pregnant when you want to get pregnant is not usually an easy thing to achieve. There are so many factors which need to be in place at the right time on a physical, emotional and psychological level. After all that effort to avoid pregnancy when we weren’t ready, we suddenly find we are unable to fall pregnant when we are. This can be devastating.

However, with the combination of correct diet, lowered stress levels, Acupuncture and exercise you can take back control of your fertility.

Natural Fertility & Regulating Your Menstrual Cycle

Having a regular, problem free menstrual cycle is the key to natural Conception. Our menstrual cycle is a remarkable phenomenon – yet most woman see the start of their period as another uncomfortable issue to deal with, whether they are trying to conceive or not. From Chinese philosophy’s perspective, your cycle should be regular, pain free, PMS free, 4-5 days of medium bleeding with fresh red blood and no clots. There should be no associated symptoms such as headaches or digestive problems.

Yet, very few women have this experience. Acupuncture is incredibly effective at re-balancing the menstrual cycle and is a very sure sign that Acupuncture is working. Experience shows that 3 monthly cycles that match how your cycle should work is more often than not sufficient to then seriously consider conceiving. The wait is usually worth it!

The Odds Of Conception

The odds of conception vary by age, so by the time we have got everything in order we are probably in our early to late 30’s and sometimes early 40’s. On average, the number of months to conception for a woman in their late 30’s is 10-12 months compared with 4-5 months for those in their early 20’s. Up to 10% of woman in their late 30’s achieve pregnancy in a given month compared to 25% for those in their early 20’s.

Diagnosed Infertility

Acupuncture can be successful for diagnosed infertility as well, however this is more complex, and in this case, we need to be patient. It is not uncommon to be treated regularly for up to a year.

Assisted Conception

Acupuncture is reported to increase the success of IVF by 40-60%.

Studies have shown that Acupuncture works on a physical level (such as regulating hormones; strengthening the immune system; increased blood flow to the uterus; follicles can double in number). On an emotional level, the stress of going through the procedure is reduced. The woman feels less anxious and more able to cope with the side affects from the drugs.

It is advisable that you start working with an experienced Acupuncturist at least 2 months before the start of any programme. Working with an Acupuncturist throughout the duration of the procedure, will help on an emotional level, but starting early will also help on a physical level.

I will need to understand the choices you have considered and it is important that we agree a time-scale to achieve various levels of success. It may well be that you simply want Acupuncture to regulate your menstrual cycle, however working together, we can ensure your diet will be the best it can and that you will become more aware of your emotional health and how it affects you on a physical level. Having the Acupuncture fertility programme will give you and your partner the best possible chances of falling pregnant
